Applied Meditation Science

Contemplative Research and Education

Applied meditation science means bridging the traditional and contemporary meditation traditions in theory, methods, and experience for the benefit and needs of our communities.

My empirical work brings together traditional modes of meditation and contemplative thought with modern scientific methodology and psychology. I investigate the social and cognitive psychological mechanisms for outcomes from a wide variety of meditation types.

As an educator I empower my students to take new ideas and test them in their own experience. In the classroom I break things down and built them back up to clear conceptual, contextual, and practical views. In the meditation hall, I take experiences and insights into an embodied and X place. In the lab we take hypotheses through rigorous methods or into the data.

scientist, and scholar I bring a depth of experience and professionalism to fostering an effective and compassionate learning community.

A few core principles I bring to all my work:
  • Contemplative pedagogy rooted in history and the science of teaching and learning

  • Empirically focused methods built in interdisciplinary and experiential examination

  • Project leadership derived in non-profit and academic institutional knowledge
I benefit my community through scholarship, meditation, and service.
